Programme Structure

The Master of Science in Public Health programme in Singapore comprises 4 core modules, 1 dissertation and two optional modules. As a masters degree student, you will be assessed with presentations, practical reports, essays, dissertations, and end-of-module examinations.

Admission Criteria

Students will be encouraged and are expected to contribute to the class learning experience in a peer and cohort learning environment. As a student at Aventis, you will be assessed based on your aptitude, potential, experience, and managerial skills.

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least lower second class honours (or equivalent)


Matured candidates above 30 years old, with a minimum of 8 years working experience may be considered on a case-to-case basis

IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component or equivalent (applicable only for graduates from non- English programmes)

Delivery Structure

All modules under this masters degree programme are spanned over 2 consecutive weekends each month by qualified academics with years of professional experience. These modules are complemented with role plays, group discussions, experiential skill workshops, and interactive lectures.

Course Curriculum

Health Improvement

Health Improvement is one of the three pillars of Public Health, alongside Healthcare Public Health, and Health Protection. The module explores theory, policy and practical aspects of Health Improvement within an International, and England context. This module covers the impact of the wider determinants of health, and the psychosocial aspects of health.

Healthcare Public Health

This module will discuss the application of public health sciences to healthcare services, planning, commissioning, and provision. You will have an opportunity to learn the skills required in local authorities to produce joint strategic needs assessments and local health needs assessments that inform decision making in healthcare service planning, design, development and delivery.

Introduction to Epidemiology

This module offers an introduction to the principles, concepts, and methods of epidemiology. It introduces epidemiology as a core discipline for public health practice, policy and research, and emphasises the key role of epidemiology in understanding and responding to the diverse factors and conditions that shape the health and well-being of individuals and populations.

Research Methods for Health and Social Care

This module will guide you through the stages involved in the development of a Research Proposal where you will identify, according to your programme of study, a public health topic or a health management and policy topic to develop your dissertation in the following semester.

Public Health Dissertation

The dissertation builds upon the taught core modules of the MSc Public Health programme. You are required to demonstrate a high level of autonomy and self-direction to integrate, synthesise, apply, and evaluate the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course. You will conduct a research project by critically examining and applying the principles and practice of Public Health.

Strategic Planning and Change Management (Elective)

This module introduces students to strategic planning and change management in the public service and to how these relate to leadership in decision making in public sector and non for profit organisations. It requires students to focus on the strategy making process in an organisation of their choice.

Health Protection: Principles and Practice (Elective)

This module explores one of the major domains of Public Health, that of Health Protection. This module will introduce you to Health Protection, and the principles and practice of this domain of Public Health.

Wellbeing in Later Life (Elective)

This module explores the unfolding of the ageing process, and the lived experiences of older people in contemporary societies, across diverse biological/physical and psychosocial domains.

Ethical Issues in Healthcare (Elective)

This module provides an opportunity for in-depth inquiry at an advanced level into the ethical dimensions of contemporary healthcare and public health, and examines the application of normative ethical theories and approaches to practical dilemmas in healthcare.
