Overview

The MSc Finance & Accounting programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and technical skills required to meet the needs and demands of the profession and make a more meaningful contribution to the organisations they work for.

Programme Structure

Designed to accommodate and complement the busy commitments of today’s global managers and professionals, this 1 year part-time MSc programme comprises of 7 modules plus a dissertation which are delivered on a modular basis.

Syllabus

Corporate Financial Management

The module will develop further issues of accounting control and focus on advanced corporate finance issues, bond market, share valuations, foreign exchange strategies, derivative securities, portfolio theory and corporate valuation.

Capital Markets and Decision Under Risk

The module is a blend of theory and practice. Students will run a fictitious hedge fund with a predefined seed money and strategy. Students will also simulate trades under market conditions.

Corporate Responsibility

The module develops skills in the ethical analysis of business conduct. Contemporary concerns relating to the need for effective corporate citizenship and governance structures are also addressed and discussed, together with the causes of emerging calls for improved corporate accountability and social responsibility.

Business Strategy

The module examines theoretical and management issues underpinning a wide range of strategic debates relevant to modern organisations.

Tax System and Policy

Students will learn the implications of tax rules and policy on the strategic financial management of business organisation as well as implications for individual wealth.

Management Decision Making

This module aims to develop certain skills which includes the ability of understanding the concept of decision making and its importance, understanding practical management decision making problems, evaluate risk probabilities associated with various models of decision-making, gain confidence in dealing with real management problems.

Auditing In Practice

This module covers advanced issues in auditing and assurance. It aims to develop the learner’s ability to analyse, evaluate and conclude on the assurance engagement.

Dissertation

This module allow you to have the opportunity to add existing knowledge and demonstrate the ability to recognise, organise and address issue(s) of an organisation(s), sector(s) or a country(ies). You will also integrate and apply relevant knowledge across the different subjects and areas learnt to gain practical experience and develop critical thinking, analytical and reflective skills.

Assessment

This is a coursework based program with certain modules having a combination of coursework and examination.

Delivery Structure

Each module spans over 2 consecutive weekends per month and includes a comprehensive coverage of 34 hours of face-to-face lectures that is complemented with online course support, additional readings and resource materials.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded a Master of Science In Finance and Accounting degree by the University of West London.

The Degree awarded will be the same as that awarded on-campus.

Admission Criteria

Candidates are expected to contribute to the class learning experience and participation. You will be assessed based on experience, aptitude, potential and ability to add value to the interactions between peers and faculty.

Honours degree 2.2 or above from a UK University or equivalent in accounting and finance subjects, or;

30 years old and above with 8 years working experience but without academic qualification can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Minimum of 6.5 IELTS overall with no less than 5.5 in any band, or equivalent (applicable only for graduates from non-English programmes).
