Graduate Diploma in Child Psychology and Mental Wellness

Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Child Psychology and Mental Wellness is a rigorous mental health programme in Singapore that enables students to acquire knowledge through the applications and understanding of one of the numerous branches of psychology, also known as child psychology. Child psychology puts great emphasis on the behaviour and mind of children – prenatal development through the adolescent years. It deals with how children grow physically and through their social, mental, and emotional development.

In this Graduate Diploma course, students will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge on the mental wellbeing issues affecting children and develop all-around crucial knowledge as well as sought-after skills surrounding the mental health of children.

Programme Structure

The Graduate Diploma In Child Psychology and Mental Wellness in Singapore comprises 4 practical modules that strive to help you acquire knowledge of addiction and practical hands-on counselling skills.

This programme utilises current industry best practices as case studies as well as a benchmark for students.

Syllabus

Developmental Psychology

In the Developmental Psychology module, students will have the opportunity to examine developmental psychology throughout their lifespan. In addition to exploring the developmental theory, methodology, and knowledge base along with how they can be used to promote the health and welfare of individuals across various ages, this module introduces students to several significant theories that assist in the understanding, summarising, and organising of concepts.

Mindfulness & Mental Wellness

Mindfulness in our everyday life is an ultimate practice and challenge. It represents a way of seeing, being, and tapping into the complete spectrum of humanity. Individuals will be able to be more conscious of their feelings, body sensations, and thoughts in the present moment through the practice of mindfulness.

The Mindfulness & Mental Wellness module embraces the 8-Week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programme designed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This module comes with the primary objective of equipping students with the attitudinal foundations of mindfulness practice - trust, patience, non-judging, beginner’s mind, acceptance, non-striving, and letting go.

Perspectives in Social Psychology

Perspectives in Social Psychology module focuses on the development and research in the study of fundamental psychological factors in the social processes as well as social interaction.

Child Psychology & Intervention Strategy

The Child Psychology & Intervention Strategy module enables students to understand the discipline of child psychology as a general area of study. Additionally, it covers the discipline of child psychology along with various key questions that steer the understanding of childhood.
