Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of pursuing a part-time master’s?

One of the key benefits of pursuing a part-time master’s degree is the flexibility to continue working while studying. At Aventis, most of our students are working professionals. Our part-time master’s programmes in Singapore are designed to support career progression without requiring you to pause your professional commitments.

You’ll also have the flexibility to study at your own pace, apply what you learn directly to your job, and build a strong professional network alongside your academic journey.

Does a part-time master’s help in career and salary?

Earning a master’s degree can certainly enhance your career prospects and increase your earning potential. According to a survey by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the median base salary for recent master’s graduates in the United States was USD 115,000 in 2020, compared to USD 85,000 for those with only a bachelor’s degree.

However, the impact of a master’s on salary depends on various factors, including your industry, job function, and geographic location. Beyond the potential for salary growth or promotion, a master’s degree also equips you with valuable skills and specialised knowledge that can be applied across industries, making you a stronger candidate for leadership or high-paying roles.

That said, a master’s programme can be a significant financial and time investment. It’s important to weigh the potential return on investment based on your career goals and personal circumstances before committing.

What is the difference between a part-time master’s and a full-time master’s?

A full-time master’s is typically completed over one to two years and follows a more intensive academic schedule. It is ideal for students who can commit to studying full-time without work commitments, as the programme is structured for weekday classes and faster progression.

A part-time master’s, on the other hand, offers greater flexibility, allowing students to continue working while studying. While it may take longer to complete — typically two to three years in Singapore — it allows for a better balance between work, study, and personal life. Part-time programmes are often structured around evenings or weekend classes, making them suitable for professionals seeking to upskill without pausing their careers.

Why should I pursue a part-time master’s in Singapore with Aventis–University of West London?

Pursuing a part-time master’s with Aventis and the University of West London offers a flexible and rewarding academic experience tailored for working professionals. UWL is ranked among the top 100 universities in the UK for the overall quality of its research, reflecting a strong academic foundation.

The UWL master’s programmes are designed to sharpen your expertise in business and leadership, equipping you with the practical knowledge and global perspective needed to thrive in today’s competitive landscape, all while allowing you to balance work, study, and personal commitments.

Is there a maximum age limit to apply for a master’s degree?

There is no maximum age limit for applying to a master’s degree. Most programmes welcome individuals of all ages, including older adults, as long as they meet the academic and admission requirements.

Master’s programmes are often designed for professionals with varying levels of experience. Many students are mid-career professionals or senior executives looking to advance their careers, change industries, or pursue personal development. If you’re considering a master’s degree for professional growth or personal enrichment, age should not be a barrier.

Should only individuals interested in leadership roles take up a master’s degree?

Not at all. A master’s degree is a versatile qualification with a wide range of specialisations and applications across various professional fields. While it can certainly prepare individuals for leadership roles, it is equally valuable for those seeking to deepen their expertise, switch careers, or gain specialised knowledge.

Individuals from diverse educational and professional backgrounds can pursue a master’s degree in areas such as finance, human resources, education, fashion, information technology, and more. Graduates go on to succeed in roles such as analysts, strategists, consultants, developers, advisors, and even startup founders. With the right academic foundation, strong communication skills, and creativity, a master’s degree can open doors in countless industries, not just in management or leadership.

What is the best master’s programme in Singapore?

There is no single “best” master’s programme. The right choice depends on your individual goals, interests, and preferred mode of study. Factors such as your career aspirations, learning style, and industry focus should guide your decision.

Singapore is home to a wide range of reputable master’s programmes offered by esteemed institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU). In addition, specialised programmes delivered by institutions like Aventis cater to working professionals seeking flexible, career-relevant education.

Each master’s programme has its own strengths, whether in academic research, industry relevance, or flexible delivery. It’s important to evaluate what best aligns with your personal and professional objectives.

What are the factors to consider when applying for a master’s?

When determining the best master’s programme for you, consider the following factors:

Reputation: Look into the reputation of the university offering the master’s programme. Choose a programme that is accredited and recognised for academic excellence, faculty expertise, industry connections, and a successful track record.

Curriculum and assessment: Review the curriculum to ensure it aligns with your career goals and interests. Some programmes offer 100% coursework assessments, while others require examinations. Select a programme that provides the right mix of courses and assessment methods to suit your learning style.

Faculty and resources: Consider the qualifications and experience of the faculty members, as well as the resources available. These may include networking opportunities, career services, and access to industry leaders and alumni networks.

Networking and industry exposure: Programmes that provide exposure to international business, networking opportunities, and access to diverse industries are often preferred by busy working professionals.

Cost and financial aid: A master’s programme is a significant financial investment. Consider tuition fees and other costs, as well as available financial aid options such as scholarships, grants, and loans.

Alumni success: Investigate the track record of the programme’s alumni, particularly their career progression after graduation. A strong alumni network can offer valuable connections and support for your career advancement.

What are the available instalment payment schemes?

At Aventis, we offer flexible and affordable instalment payment schemes for our MBA and master’s degrees. Instead of paying the full tuition upfront, fees can be spread over four instalments throughout the duration of the programme.
