Following almost two years of uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, more companies are looking to hire MBA graduates to help them restore operations and develop growth strategies. According to GMAC’s Annual Corporate Recruiter Survey, we might also expect a recovery and an increase in employment and income expectations for MBA graduates this year. There is also an increase in general confidence in an MBA’s value proposition.
According to the QS findings, MBA programs are popular for 6 of the most popular reasons students are enrolling in them.
1. Expand your career opportunities and mobility
According to U.S. News & World Report, an MBA can boost job stability with a current company or within a certain industry area. According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, 96 per cent of employers surveyed believe that recruiting business school graduates adds value to their organisations.
Globally, the number of MBA applicants who apply to work in a leadership position after graduation is about three times higher than those who want to increase their compensation. Even though this ratio is lower in North America, roughly twice as many people pursue leadership positions as pay increments.
2. Acquire new skills and competencies

The second most compelling reason for professionals to seek an MBA is inextricably linked to the first. As businesswomen and men work their way up the corporate ladder, they must develop new abilities to match their increasing responsibilities. MBA programmes today include courses on sustainable business strategy, organizational behavior, and change management development to help executives become better leaders.
According to the QS survey, more than 40 per cent of respondents chose to get an MBA to improve their soft skills in communication, interpersonal connections, and leadership. Furthermore, based on the survey, the top motivations for pursuing an MBA are intertwined. For many MBA applicants, their short-term goal is to develop new abilities that will improve their job chances and eventually lead them to leadership positions.
3. Helps you become a better manager and leader
It should come as no surprise that the majority of MBA candidates desire to advance their careers, with 42 per cent of survey respondents indicating that they want to better their professional chances. Moreover, nearly half of them—46.5 percent—plan to pursue leadership or general management positions after graduation.
It is critical to have competent leaders and managers who can not only plan strategically but also inspire and motivate their staff to perform well. Great leaders have a critical role in attracting and retaining top talent, which is vital to the organization’s success, especially in today’s tight labor markets.
You can improve your leadership and management talents by pursuing an MBA. Besides developing your leadership skills, you will also be able to develop other essential soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and more. All of these will help you build your leadership capabilities and prepare you to become an effective leader in your organization.
4. Gain international exposure
Almost 40 per cent of respondents have indicated that acquiring foreign experience is a reason why they want to get an MBA. While this is less of a factor for MBA candidates in North America and Europe, it is the second most important factor for those in the Asia-Pacific area (45 per cent).
Students from locations with a high level of international expertise are clearly keen on getting real-world experience. As a result, many reputable business schools, such as Roehampton University London MBA, offer academic credit for their global leadership programme, which offers leadership talks, discussion, and C-level networking with professionals from over 35 nationalities across the world.
5. Expand your professional network
Another reason provided by respondents as to why they wished to pursue an MBA was to create a professional network. According to experts, up to 80 per cent of all jobs are filled through networking. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that MBA applicants want to connect with like-minded individuals.
Unlike other part-time MBA programmes in Singapore, the University of Roehampton MBA programme is 100 per cent coursework focused—featuring case studies and class discussions as core components of the curriculum. 6. Explore mid-career changes or entrepreneurship
