PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COUNTER TERRORISM AND SECURITY – AT A GLANCE

OVERVIEW

The Professional Graduate Diploma in Counter Terrorism and Security seeks to improve professional standards by deepening students' understanding of the history and motivators of terrorism, and thereby developing their ability to critique current (and anticipate future) terrorist threats and possible counterterrorist measures. Assessment items will encourage the application of theory to practice, with the aim of having students articulating ways in which their learning can be applied to their own professional practice. Students will also acquire practical knowledge in security risk, security technology and lost prevention knowledge.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

On completion of the Professional Graduate Diploma in Counter Terrorism and Security, students will have:

• Developed an understanding of the contemporary issues and challenges in the areas of policing, counter terrorism and security.
• Attained knowledge and skills associated with developing responses to political, security and law enforcement threats.
• A comprehensive understanding of the current trends in terrorism and policing.
• Understanding of National Security refers to the requirement to maintain the survival of the national state through a range of protective measures.
• Identify and distinguish between different types of terrorism according to the ideology of the terrorists.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

This is a 6 months part-time program comprising of 4 modules. This program are tailored for working professionals and classes are conducted on weekdays evening from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. Each module is supported with 24 contact hours of face to face lectures which are conducted by our experienced faculty.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

All applicants must possess:

• A degree or similar professional qualifications from a recognized university/institution, OR
• A diploma from a polytechnic with at least 3 years of working experience
• Senior executives with extensive experience but without academic qualification may be considered on a case to case basis

CURRICULUM FOR EXPERIENCED WORKING PROFESSIONALS

Developed and delivered by industry practitioner, this program is both academically rigorous and practical oriented. The curriculum is closely aligned with industry practice and framework and is recognized internationally by Professional bodies worldwide.

3 DAY PROFESSIONAL SITE VISIT TO TEL AVIV, ISRAEL (OPTIONAL)

Led by Israeli security professionals, the 3 day site trip to Israel is a unique opportunity as well as a professional experience for participants to gain on-site understanding of the characteristics of modern terrorism. The trip will include visits to sites of suicide attacks, assassinations and mass casualty terror incidents. Participants will also visit a protected government installation and a shopping mall in order to observe first-hand some of the methodologies developed in recent years to counter terrorist threats. The visit will consist of primarily on-site analysis of security events, exemplifying many of the principles that will be taught during the course in a hands-on and engaging way. On-site analysis will take place at number of sites throughout Israel that have been targeted by terrorism.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

The Professional Graduate Diploma in Counter Terrorism and Security is awarded Aventis School of Management in collaboration with the Centre for Behavioral Science and STET Homeland Security Services. Successful graduates will be allowed to use the designatory letters “GDip Counter Terrorism and Security” after their name upon completion of the program.

ARTICULATION PATHWAY

This is an internationally recognized program, upon successful completion of the program, applicants will be granted advanced standing and exemptions into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Participants may enrol and attend any of the modules for the acquisition of knowledge in a particular discipline. An executive certificate will be awarded for students that have fulfilled at least 80% attendance for that enrolled module.

For participants that have enrolled and attended any of the modules for the acquisition of knowledge in a particular discipline, they will be issued with an executive certificate if they fulfil at least 80% attendance.

TERMS & CONDITIONS: All notice of withdrawal must be in writing. A full refund of the course fees paid will be made if notice of withdrawal is received more than 60 days before course commencement. If notice of withdrawal is received between 60 to 30 days before course commencement, 75% of course fees paid will be refunded. No refund will be made after the course has commenced.
